ONTARIO FINNISH RESTHOME ASSOCIATIONS SENIOR’S APARTMENTS
This 81 unit building for the Ontario Finnish Resthome Association, will be constructed this coming Spring. As the building is on a beautifully wooded site, all the common areas are located to afford views overlooking a heavily treed ravine.
WATERFRONT RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS
The client wished a solution to enjoy their waterfront in all seasons, that varies from a windy and cold winter’s environment, to the heat of summer. The pavilion consists of a large ‘floating’ canopy suspended above a glass and stone ‘box’, placed upon an urban shore along the St. Mary’s River. The pavilion’s materiality reflects that of the residence adjacent, the landscape and the waterside location.
MELWEL LODGE DINING PAVILION
Construction has been completed on this new 100 seat dining lodge for Melwel Lodge. They are expanding their services to offer a venue for weddings and social activities and the Pavilion will become the centre piece for the Lodge.
RESIDENTIAL CONVERSION PROJECT
Sacred Heart School was once the ‘heart’ of a vibrant centre town residential neighbourhood. With migration out of the City core, the school became redundant. This project brings new life to an old building.
RAVINE HOUSE
Situated adjacent a heavily wooded ravine, this house was designed to capture both the feel and view of this dynamic site. Projecting the building over the edge of the slope provides the unprecedented ability to not only look across, but also up and down the landscape below.
MULTI UNIT PROPOSAL
The objective is to provide two buildings, with views to both the waterfront and downtown.
ST MARY’S RIVER HOUSE RECREATIONAL OUT-BUILDING
Now that the home is complete, we are in the midst of design for a new recreation building on the property, to provide a space for friends to gather, play pool, or just sit and mingle.
GREENVIEW RESIDENCE
The older 1980’s project involved both the design of the building, but also the furnishings.
WEST VILLAGE TINY HOUSE AND INFILL PROJECT
Currently in design, this initiative is to densify, provide housing for those in need, bring in new Canadians and promote multi-generational housing in the old Steelton area of the city.
BLIND RIVER TOWNHOUSES
This 10 unit townhouse project, consists of two 5 unit buildings. This project is to provide much needed housing in the community, for a reasonable cost.
RESIDENCE ON LAKE SUPERIOR
The 1.6 hectare site is forested by oak and pine, growing in sandy soil, stained reddish brown by a high iron content. A wide sandy beach demarcates the edge between water and land overlooking the lake. A palette of materials was chosen to compliment the site’s natural colour scheme, yet do so with man-made materials, that rather than polished and refined, represent a rough industrial aesthetic.
WINE CELLAR
An example of a small project that produced stellar results for the client. The cellar is divided into three distinct areas, a tasting cellar, preparation area and a chilled zone for white wine.
OFF-THE-GRID RESIDENCE
Our client, a young family of four, want to build a sustainable home on St. Joseph Island.
The best way to save energy, is not to use energy in the first place and hence the building envelope is simple and insulated to an extreme degree. Windows are south facing, triple glazed, low e argon filled units and are placed strategically to maximize solar gain and views.
INFILL RESIDENCE
This residence currently in design, is an example of building new within an older, established neighbourhood. The client wishes a traditional design that integrated seamlessly into its surroundings.
WATERFRONT CONDOMINIUMS
The move is on to provide more housing in Ontario and we are involved in many local initiatives, to do just that.
110 PIM ST
This 112 unit multi-family residential project is currently under construction. The building contains the usual gym and meeting room, but also a library, lounge, a large secure bicycle storage and maintenance room, etc.
SEARCHMONT SKI CHALET
We have just completed a private ski chalet at the popular Searchmont Ski Resort, that boasts the highest elevation in Ontario
ALGOMA RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY HOSPICE
This programme addresses the end-of-life care for residents of the Algoma District in a humanistic and caring fashion.
The plan consists of ten private bedrooms, plus support areas. Each room has access to the natural site that surrounds the building. Internally there are many private areas for families to meet, plus a glass enclosed sunroom for communal use..
SUNNYSIDE HOME
Currently in design with construction commencing shortly, this residence is both a home and a cottage.
CARAMANICO COTTAGE
The cottage is located on the shores of lake Huron, overlooking the passage between the Island and the Mainland. The design intent was to re-create the cottage architecture of the area in the early part of last century, yet with modern conveniences and functionality.
BACKCOUNTRY HOUSE
Currently in design, this residence also contains a separate professional practice office for the owner.
MCDONALD AVENUE RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
This 12 storey multi-family residential project is currently in design and awaiting OMB approval.
The building contains a mix of ancillary features, such as a common sports and recreation facility, tenant lounge, restaurant and other amenities.
REPURPOSING A HOSPITAL INTO A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBOURHOOD
This project is the redevelopment of a site formerly occupied by two “old SAH” hospitals. As it is located on the waterfront of the St. Mary’s River, the site has great potential for metamorphosis into a new stand-alone neighbourhood, with mixed building sizes and building types.
MARCONI RESIDENCES
Long a cultural icon, the Marconi Club, is looking to expand it’s investment in the quality of life of the community, with a new apartment complex and the refurbishment of the existing Marconi Club.

Currently in design, this home is situated on the top off the Gros Cap bluff, overlooking Lake Superior.

Currently under construction, this nine storey building represents a major step in the services provided by the Legion.

This three building apartment development is to be constructed as a complete neighbourhood, providing amenities consistent with that concept.
