RAVINE HOUSE
Situated adjacent a heavily wooded ravine, this house was designed to capture both the feel and view of this dynamic site. Projecting the building over the edge of the slope provides the unprecedented ability to not only look across, but also up and down the landscape below.
Keeping with the firm’s credo of environmentally progressive design, the building is bult to very high thermal values, exceeding the Ontario Code by almost 50%, to minimize energy used. Additionally the projecting design enables few trees to be removed to capture the view than the traditional approach of building beside the slope and removing foliage to enable a view, as one is now on what is essentially a bridge hanging in the air over the ravine.
