WEST VILLAGE TINY HOUSE AND INFILL PROJECT

Sault Ste Marie

Currently in design, this initiative is to densify, provide housing for those in need, bring in new Canadians and promote multigenerational housing in the old Steelton area of the city.

The concept is to utilise the network of existing alleys extensively located in the area, plus infill where previous structures have been left unoccupied, or currently derelict. The sketches illustrate both scenarios. A larger family home has been inserted where a previous building used to stand, while a tiny home is located facing the alley.

It is proposed that the homes be pre-fabricated as single units in the case of the tiny homes, and in modular form for larger structures. This creates far less disruption to the neighbourhood during erection and higher quality, being built under controlled conditions, for less money.
