MUKQUA WAAKAAIGAN FREESTANDING BUILDING CONCEPT ALGOMA UNIVERSITY
The initial concept was for a smaller building. (See previous page)
However, this evolved into a much larger project, encompassing many more elements and multiple floors.
Many of the original designs attributes remained, but a larger scale. This design concept creates a building, still designed with the river inside as per the original, but now with a grassy hill above, that can be traversed by walking around and over its structure, becoming dynamic in nature, but also making it more grounded with the earth.
Like higher learning, this is best achieved by examining the whole picture in its entirety, rather than only some of its parts. Again it is proposed that wood elements be used for cladding, although at this stage not fully developed.
The exterior walk around/walk over/walk through concept, eventually became the guiding principle for its future development.
